Class of 2012Bristol Bay River Academy

The Bristol Bay River Academy will be entering its 5th year with renewed sponsorships and commitments from several of Bristol Bay’s world class fishing lodges. The Academy teaches river ecology and conservation to the youth of Bristol Bay through a program that also provides basic instruction in fly-fishing and the skills needed to become a fishing guide.This year the Academy will feature an advanced program for past graduates combined with internships at participating lodges. The goal of the academy is to achieve long-term conservation by creating local employment opportunities around Bristol Bay’s most abundant renewable resource – fish. Annual support needed for the Academy is approximately $50,000 in cash and in-kind support. More information about the academy can be found on our new website


Sailing for SalmonSailing For Salmon

The Land Trust’s acclaimed exhibit “Sailing for Salmon” celebrating the 125th Anniversary of the Bristol Bay Commercial Fishery is now in Washington state after successful displays in Dillingham, Homer, Anchorage, Cordova, and Juneau. During the summer of 2012 Alaska General Seafoods (AGS) hosted the exhibit at its cannery in Naknek. AGS will be helping the land trust place the exhibit at venues in Washington and Oregon – spreading the message that Bristol Bay salmon are a globally significant food resource worth protecting…
